Florida Series (newest at top)
As part of a recent show on the Florida landscape, I started to really explore the state of Florida. At first I set out with the St. Johns River as the focal point of my paintings. That has been broadened to include Florida State parks, and there are many, many wonderful parks to experience and the ocean, a place where I have spent much of my time surfing and soaking up the salt air. Driving up and down the state I realized that much of the natural beauty is inaccessible to the passers-by. Development and highways, private property and fences make it nearly impossible to really see Florida for its natural beauty. Most of these paintings were created at state parks and the odd accesses I could find here and there.

Evening at Hontoon Island
24x20 oil
Hontoon Island is a gem of a state park. It's hard to find and you either take the ferry or a private boat to get to it. But it's real Florida. This painting will be featured in an upcoming book on the St. Johns river.
