Redo number 2 (thousand)

Someone asked me if I'd post another rework. So here it is. The 30x40 painting above is about 4 years old. It went to two galleries and sat, then came back and sat in my shower for a long time (the painting, not me). I'm trying to get about 10 big paintings done for My gallery in Vero Beach so it occurred to me to redo this thing and try to improve on it. It's an okay painting, a little weighted to the left, too many hard edges and I didn't really like the colors and the brush work. If I had nothing but time I'd pull it off the stretchers and reframe it as a 30 by 30. If I can find my canvas stapler, I just might. At the tail end of this post I'll crop it in photoshop and you can tell me what you think.

It may not look like I did much but in fact I reworked about 90% of it. I grayed and softened the buildings because they were too much for the eye. Grayed and softened the front walk where the boxes are because it was annoying as a shape. Redid all the shadows and reflections to make them a little bolder in the brushwork department. Changed the water color to a brighter blue to give it more visual weight. and repainted all the boats. It actually looks really nice up close.

I think I'll try some different croppings....

This is not bad... I have a 30x30 frame and stretchers. If it dries by tomorrow I may try it. Lets see what else I can come up with....

24x32 but I don't have a frame for that.... one more

This would be a 16x16 cropping. It has potential as an abstracted idea..

Same chunk modified in photoshop... I love photoshop. Lots to think about...
